Center for Public History at Shawnee State University
Ohio Humanities has supported a planning grant and a quarterly grant to establish our work with Latine communities in our region. The organization’s financial support has been essential to jumpstarting our organization and allowing us time and space to think with community members. In 2024, Ohio Humanities supported the translation of the Las Culturas del Sur de Ohio podcast episodes into Spanish, the revamp of some of our organizational webpages, a marketing campaign for the podcast, and hosting community events to get feedback on our work.
Central Appalachia Living Traditions, a program of Mid Atlantic Arts, is supporting the Las Culturas del Sur de Ohio podcast.
Ohio Arts Council supported an ArtsRISE grant that funded Lua Project perform two assemblies for over 700 students at Portsmouth Elementary School, a meeting with teachers and interpreters at Portsmouth City Schools to discuss strategies for incorporating cultural activities into schools, and an evening performance of Mexilachian music at Cantina Ixtaccíhuatl.
