Las Culturas del Sur de Ohio

Las Culturas del Sur de Ohio shares oral histories and contemporary lifeways of Guatemalans, Hondurans, Mexicans, Peruvians, Puerto Ricans, Salvadorans, Venezuelans, and individuals from other Latin American countries residing in southern Ohio through the launch of the inaugural Southern Ohio Folklife podcast.
Las Culturas del Sur de Ohio draws on the Southern Ohio Folklife digital bilingual oral history archival collection of Latine folklife at the Center for Public History at Shawnee State University.
Sharing stories about the richness and diversity of cultural traditions of Latine communities in Appalachia provides an opportunity to foster understanding and connections among people who reside in the Appalachian region. Latine communities remain underrepresented in civic life in the southern Ohio region, and the Las Culturas del Sur de Ohio podcast presents an opportunity to raise awareness of the historical roots, contemporary pathways, and cultural complexities of Latine life in the area.
